Jena Semantic Web Framework and Pellet for .NET

Wednesday, 10/14/2009, 13:05:13

Jena is a Java framework for building Semantic Web applications. It provides a programmatic environment for RDF, RDFS and OWL, SPARQL and includes a rule-based inference engine. The Open Source OWL Reasoner Pellet for Java provides standard and cutting-edge reasoning services for OWL ontologies.

For .NET, there is with SemWeb a Semantic Web/RDF library, which might not be as powerful as the Java alternative. Furthermore the project was stopped in May 2009 and therefore there will be no updates anymore, except for bug fixes.

But there is a solution: If you want to use Jena in .NET, you can try IKVM.NET. IKVM.NET is an implementation of Java for .NET and provides the possibilty to convert Java libraries (JAR's) in .NET libraries (DLL's).

Now, if you convert the Jena Framework and Pellet using the following manuals, you can reference the created DLL's in .NET and start programming as you got used to it in Java.

To save you some time and work, you can download my Jena and Pellet package for .NET consisting of the latest versions of the Java libraries:

Please note that the IKVM OpenJDK libraries are also necessary to run Jena in .NET.

Good luck!

First details on "Talents in Touch"

Saturday, 09/12/2009, 11:30:04

By now, two months are bygone since I got the information that I will be part of Talents in Touch. Since then, the organization team sends one E-Mail per month, in which they reveal more about the event.

The Welcome-Dinner on Friday night will take place at the restaurant of Torre d'alta mar. The host on Sunday noon will be the restaurant of Opium Mar. Both locations seem to be very expensive and exclusive. 028

On Saturday night, a White Session will take place. I don't really know what to expect from the so-called White session. Even the little brainteaser by the organization team didn't help me out:

The White Session...

... will be extremely colorful though without paint
... features beats and biology, cooks and cameras
... makes fire work and art virtual
... needs cooking engineers and film-loving scientists
... and last but not least: Is a party but not quite yet.

Got it? :-)

I didn't get it. So, if you have an idea, just feel free to comment on my blog!

On Sunday morning from 11:00 12:45 a.m. the students will be split up into three groups according to their personal preferences, so that they can discover and experience the city of Barcelona in a so-called Barcelona Experience. The three different tours are:

Barcelona Experience - City Walk

Barcelona Experience - Architecture

Barcelona Experience - Innovation

I can't decide between Option 2 and 3. Both tours are very interesting.

All in all, I have to say that Talents in Touch will be a great and interesting event. I am looking forward to it more and more!

If you want to know what happens in the meantime, check out the Talents in Touch twitter page: twitter.com/talente2009!

A few weeks ago, I applied for an opportunity to participate at this year's Talents in Touch 2009 program of the Deutsche Telekom. Themed Shaping tomorrow's world, the event provides students in the last year of their study the chance to get insight into the telecommunication's world, especially Deutsche Telekom.

Talents in Touch 2009

More information on the link below:

After successfully applying and going through an English phone interview, I can happily say that I am one of the lucky 11 students taking part at this year's Talents in Touch. 190 students applied for this opportunity only in Germany. And it makes me more happy to know that I am one of the Top 11 chosen by Deutsche Telekom.

ME Barcelona HotelWhat I expect from the event is that I get to know a lot of interesting people, widen my social network, learn from the experiences of the top managers and see, what my career chances are.

By the way, I never visited Barcelona, but the city interests me a lot! And the hotel, in which we are going to stay does not look bad at all!

You are going to get more information about the event, when I'm there. Wish me luck!
