OpenMobileNetwork and Linked Food @LOD Cloud

Friday, 09/05/2014, 21:41:38

I am proud to announce that the OpenMobileNetwork and Linked Food have been officially included into the LOD Cloud diagram:

LOD Cloud

You will find the OpenMobileNetwork within the Geographic domain, whereas Linked Food is listed in the Cross-Domain section. Hopefully, Linked Crowdsourced Data will follow in the near future!

Chapter for German Springer Book "Corporate Semantic Web"

Wednesday, 07/23/2014, 06:13:53

In early 2015, Springer will publish a book in German entitled Corporate Semantic Web - Wie semantische Anwendungen in Unternehmen Nutzen stiften. This book focuses on examples of how Semantic Web technologies have been successfully implemented in real world applications and discusses key learnings within the deployment process.

I am proud to announce that I have also contributed to this book with a chapter entitled Semantische Technologien für Mobilfunkunternehmen in which I discuss the role of mobile network operators as a bit pipe and how Semantic Web technologies can support them in reentering the services market. Within this chapter, I introduce the OpenMobileNetwork as well as the Context Data Cloud platforms and present the Context Data Cloud for Android (CDCApp) that is a location-based community app offering a set of semantic services to users such as a Friend Tracker or a Popular Places Finder.

WIMS 2014 and ICSC 2014 Conferences

Saturday, 06/21/2014, 16:06:39

Abdulbaki presents OMN Ontology at WIMS 2014From 4th to 6th of June, I attended the WIMS 2014 Conference in Thessaloniki where I have presented the paper Enabling Semantically Enriched Data Analytics by Leveraging Topology-based Mobile Network Context Ontologies. This paper explains the OpenMobileNetwork Ontology and its network context facets in detail and shows how they can be exploited for location analytics.

At the ICSC 2014 Conference, on the other hand, which took place from 16th to 18th of June in Newport Beach, I gave two paper talks. The paper Exploiting Location Semantics for Realizing Cross-referencing Proactive Location-based Services presents an extension of our Semantic Positioning approach, whereas the paper Analyzing the Applicability of the Linking Open Data Cloud for Context-Aware Services provides a deep applicability analysis of the LOD Cloud for context-aware services.

Both papers achieved high scores, so that we were invited to work on journal articles for the International Journal of Semantic Computing and the IEEE Transactions on Emerging Topics in Computing.
